This was a work of art. I don't know how you were able to do this in such a short amount of time, it's incredible what you were able achieve.  The art and environments were so gorgeous. The parallax scrolling you had was huge in immersing  me in this world.  The character moves around so smoothly. You feel lightweight and breezy as it should, and wow it felt so good to control.

If there are any things that could benefit this game going further, I suggest illuminating the lanterns more when you're falling down the cavern. It felt like they just faded into an abyss and it didn't feel like they were really glowing. I also suggest having a sound to indicate you've touched the lanterns. It did take me a few seconds to realize what exactly were the lanterns, so any further visual indicator or audio one would help here. Overall this was spectacular, and you really seem like you could make more great games in the future.

OOOH THAT IDEA OF HAVING THE LANTERNS MAKE A SOUND WHEN YOU TOUCH THEM IS GENIUS ... I can imagine a lovely little twinkle or chime, or maybe a bell! I am so stealing that idea, thank you! And thanks so much for the kind words! I put a lot of time making sure the movement felt satisfying and the parallax worked right so it makes me really happy to hear that those things are noticed and appreciated! :D

Incredible. Chef’s kiss. My only feedback is that unless you know where the lanterns are positioned beforehand, it can be impossible to get them as you fall during the chasm part. So maybe placing in more of a sequence, or adjusting the gravity of the character so that you can navigate getting from one side to the other more easily. This game is not only beautiful in its art, but it is also lovely and so satisfying in its simplicity. You leaned into you skillset and made a game that let your strengths shine, and I think it’s a total success in every way— fun, theme, viability, etc. I knew you were going to make something beautiful and amazing based on your previous work, and I was not disappointed. I would definitely want to play any games you make in the future.

Aw, thank you so much Alex! I'm really touched, such high praise :D Did the falling part feel too challenging even while holding space to fall slower? In testing I thought that gave the player enough time to get from one side of the tunnel to the other, but I can revisit it! I think putting them in a pattern or sequence like you suggest could be fun.

My jaw was on my desk the whole time I was playing. Holy cow. The art is gorgeous, the concept is simple but powerful, the music was inspiring. My small knit pick (verysmall) is to add a small bit of movement to the fall animation, like the scarf flapping. The character animation and controls really feel very smooth together, so for the character to freeze during a long, slow section, it hurts a little bit.

also, I love these characters, could I do some art of them??

YESSS I wanted to make a pretty lil fall animation so bad (since much of the game is spent falling!) but couldn't get it done before the due date, but now I totes plan on adding it >:D And omg go ahead, please show me if you do!

I played the game slowly to enjoy the art. The animations are well done and I like the music u have there, very moody with the settings that you have. I had a hard time reaching for the lanterns, especially for the one that I miss, this brings back the tilt I have from playing "Ori and the blind forest" where I struggle the same thing in the "events" of Ori. Well done Darius, it seems a good amount of work invested, especially in the art.

YO I've had Ori for years and never played it because I'm bad TT-TT Which lantern were you struggling with? The one on top of the house?

lol I'm just bad with the keyboard so like I missed some while falling, the ones on the house are noticeable though.

YEAH makes sense, Alex mentioned something like that, might play with the gravity scale to give the player more time to maneuver over to the lanterns!

This is so beautiful! I played this when you shared the link last week and I'm honestly super impressed? with how much you managed to add since then! The character design and the little animated details on them are beautiful, the scenery feels really expansive and makes me excited to explore this world, and the ending sequence feels really conclusive. Excellent work!!

THANK YOU the last week was a mad dash tbh ... luckily the falling sequence was super straightforward. Thank you so much, I haven't really animated before and was very intimidated so I'm glad the struggle was worth it! :D

Thank you! I listened to the music so many times while testing and I'm still not tired of it it's so pretty :sob:

thanks! And yep, only three! will add in a ui element eventually to let you know how many there are.

Very simple and straightforward, but I can tell where you’re going with it and the kinds of environments you’re trying to create and explore. The art is gorgeous and the scene feels dynamic, even in this one small sample. I’m curious to see what kind of story you will tell in your final, and how you will tie all of the pieces together thematically. Wonderful work!

Thanks Alex! I'm psyched to see where this goes, too! I have some fun ideas, just gotta figure out how the story is gonna bring it all together. Happy to be getting the hang of Unity!
